The past two weeks the entire family had a cold, not all at the same time, one after another...
But anyway, everybody is on their feet again and I've started to continue my work on F-SIM.

Here's the very first image that shows desktopsimmers incredibly cool orbiter 3D model in F-SIM:

The model is very detailed, with more than 6,000 faces, but it renders quite smoothly (at least on the 4th generation iPod, I'll have to check it on older, 2nd generation devices).

There's no lighting yet, so it looks a bit flat, and there are some problems with the u/v textures (e.g. the blue stripes in the main engines), but nothing that can't be solved. Right now there are no movable parts, but the final version will of course feature animated areosurfaces and gears.

Looks good! Without sounding impatient, any idea on when to expect the release?

3:45pm today..... Sorry I could resist that. :D

Nice work Sascha. 8-) For me this is like looking at a new born baby. I've only seen the shuttle in 3D in an editor, to actually see it in the flesh, is quite something.

Heh, you know, Duke Nukem Forever is scheduled for release on May 3rd (I'm not sure if they've mentioned the year though), so I'll target the same day ;)
Seriously, late February should be possible, I can't promise anything though...

I know exactly what you mean. Seeing your own creation coming to live is always a great thing.
I think your model looks awesome! Keep in mind that there's no lighting yet, so it's comparable to this image of the cockpit:

(In contrast to this one, with lights):

I'll run it through 3Delight to bake the ambient occlusion information onto the texture (just like I did with the cockpit). Alas, I can't use GLSL shaders (for backward compatibility with 1st and 2nd generation hardware), but I think plain vanilla OpenGL lighting (together with the prerendered ambient occlusion) should be sufficient.

I'm still amazed by the amount of detail - the gear struts, the wheels, etc... (you can't see it in the image above)
Nice work!

Think I got something nice for the textures. Also I'm going to have a play with 3dlight tomorrow night, weather permitting ;)
