game crashes

UNREAD_POSTby Neilmac50 » Sat Apr 13, 2013 10:21 am

I have an old iPod version 4.2.1 with firmware 4.3.3 and have been playing this games for a few years, its my favourite one of all the apps I have.Kept me amused during the quiet periods whilst working in a game reserve in Malawi ! I have today just downloaded the latest update for the HD video recording option and now when I tap to play the game the first menu screen flashes up for about 3-5 secs then it crashes out completely.I have tried several times to see if it would work including tapping on one of the opening options before it crashes out, all without any success. Please could you assist me in any way, I have a long flight out next week from Cape Town to London and had planned on being entertained in flight with this app.Neil.

Sorry for that.

It’s an iPod 4?

I tested it on an iPod 4, but running the latest iOS 5.
I tested it on iOS 4 and even 3 too, but not on an iPod 4. I’ll see if I can somehow downgrade to check what’s wrong.

If it crashes after 5 seconds it could be related to some kind of network access, either the news feed or GameCenter. To help me track this down:
Could you try to disable GameCenter?
And try it in airplane mode?
Thanks a lot!

And one more thing: If it runs long enough before it crashes, can you try to use the feedback button. This would send some valuable information for debugging.

I've got a second gen iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1, I'll try and reproduce this later.

Thanks Tom.
I’ve got a 1st gen touch running iOS 3 and a 2nd gen running iOS 4 (always the latest). F-Sim worked fine on both. But video recording is disabled on both of them. It should also be disabled under iOS 4, but maybe F-Sim thinks it can render to video on the 4th generation touch, even when on iOS 4. I’ll have a look.

Hmmm… No crash report on Apple’s server. But they only report it for iOS 5, 5.1, 6, and 6.1.

And I’ve checked the code, the video recording function explicitly checks the iOS version (and requires iOS 5 or later).

Yep, I can reproduce the problem. It crashes just after GameCenter initialises. I'll post a couple of crash logs in the usual place.

The problem is still there in build 270.

OK, thanks a lot Tom!

I can reproduce it too now. For some reason I wasn’t logged in to Game Center on that iPod

Neilmac50:
Thanks for reporting this.
It’s fine on iOS 5 or later, but if you can’t update, don’t worry, we’ll fix this in the next version (should be ready to download in one or two weeks).
In the meantime a workaround is to turn off (i.e. log out of) Game Center.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
