Poor scoring system

UNREAD_POSTby ian » Mon Sep 16, 2013 9:05 pm

Why is scoring so bad in F-Sim?
The result is far less appeal that it could otherwise be.
I have shown it to others who all say it is boring because of this, and I rarely play it any more of this.

Here are some videos I made illustrating this:

1. http://youtu.be/S0yg-_7fDfk
Land and stop on tarmac, speed and position appropriate
Structure not damaged in any way. Result: a score of zero

2. http://youtu.be/PMu6bbYrvzA
With the skills to approach and fly upside with the tail just a few feet from the ground,
and still land with no damage to the structure, showing an amazing recovery,
yet the result is a score of zero.

3. http://youtu.be/uGXIc77d_i8
On this flight I approached and then glided the shuttle literally a few inches
from the ground demonstrating expert control of the craft, yet the score is
just 38 out of a possible million or so.

4. http://youtu.be/5SOdZHDdt54
Shuttle lands with enough speed to take off again, do a barrell roll with the parachute,
and still land with the shuttle intact. Resulting score is zero.

5. http://youtu.be/DdLfw6aKMsI
Completely out of control in a fast spin, and yet I regain control and still land
intact and stop on the tarmac showing a brilliant recovery, with a resulting
score of zero.

Its because all of your landings as spectacular as they are would have made you fired from the NASA.
The scoring system does not judge your stunt skills but your ability to remain within the NASA tolerances for a good shuttle landing. It will calculate the forces on the landing gears, your speed, your touching point...etc...

F-Sim is not a game, it is a sim and despite that it is still very fun (in a challenge point of view).
